Introduction…
Can the United States military establishment really keep a secret? Consider this…
“In 1943 the neutral press printed some strange news about an apocalyptic experimental American bomb that had destroyed every living thing on a small island during its first test. The facts as reported were not true, but the rumors were based on concrete data, or on the first rare leaks that were coming out concerning the frenzied preparation of the super-secret atomic center at Oak Ridge. The news, then, was in advance of the appearance of the new bomb. A kind of science fiction before the proper time.
Two years later vague references to unknown, large scale phenomena (“a deafening roar and a column of smoke”) that had been noted in the desert region of New Mexico appeared in some Texas and Arizona newspapers. Mass hallucination or a meteor, the military authorities declared brusquely. Then it was learned that precisely at 5:38 on
July 16, 1945, under the code name Trinity, the first American atomic bomb had been detonated on the top of a high steel tower a dozen or so miles from the air base of Alamogordo. “We learned of the existence of the A bomb at the same time the Japanese did!” the surprised citizens of the United States exclaimed. And it was perfectly true!”

In Jules Verne’s classic tale of adventure, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, what was thought to be a ferocious monster terrorizing the sea lanes, devouring whole ships and crews, stirring a public frenzy, was in fact a fantastic submarine, the ‘Nautilus’—built by the mysterious genius-inventor captain Nemo. Behind this facade of an avenging beast from the depths was in reality a secret advanced technology, a submersible boat: the product of engineering know-how years ahead of its time. This mechanical marvel gave its creator, captain Nemo, dominion over the oceans of the world. Verne echoes this theme of clandestine super-technology, again the product of a reclusive genius, in another of his novels, Robur the Conqueror and its sequel Master of the World. Instead of a submarine, these tales tell of a magnificent flying machine called the ‘Albatross’.


A compelling contemporary version of this scenario is portrayed in W. A. Harbinson’s dark novel Genesis, only in this case, UFOs are the instruments of twisted genius. Published in 1980, this novel tells of a brilliant scientist and aeronautical engineer named ‘Wilson’ who perfects flying disc technology for the Nazis during World War II. He is an American ex-patriot pursuing his own dark ambitions serving the Germans. As the war draws to a close, he escapes the crumbling Reich by U-boat to Antarctica and from a secret base he establishes there, Wilson sets about his plan for world dominion with flying discs masquerading as UFOs and aliens from space. Pursued by a relentless investigator, Wilson’s plot is revealed. Having perfected more than just flying saucers, he has mastered techniques in biomechanics, DNA replication and mind control. Thus with cunning precision he secretly uses brain implants on people of influence in government, industry, science, media and the military, transforming them into living robots—mindless drones to build his One-World Order.


Genesis is perhaps one of the best, most provocative novels about the subject of UFOs to be written. Woven into its fictional scenario is a thoroughly researched factual history of the UFO phenomenon itself. While gathering material for an entirely different book project, Harbinson came across two tantalizing articles referencing “Foo-fighters”, mysterious balls of light reported to have dogged Allied bombers flying missions over Nazi Germany in World War II. Intrigued, Harbinson dug deeper into this compelling enigma and from his findings eventually developed Genesis. UFO researchers generally dismiss ‘Foo’-fighters as hallucinations or drones flown by curious ETs studying our level of military technology, but Harbinson discovered an altogether different explanation for ‘Foo’-fighters which in a larger sense suggests that UFOs–‘flying saucers’–may not be alien space ships at all…that UFOs may in fact represent the super-secret military technology of planet Earth!!
Harbinson concludes his novel, Genesis, with an extensive appendix of research to support his conclusions. Some of his revelations are startling and with this report we intend to examine his findings as well as additional information that tends to support it.

The UFO mystery has been one of the premier enigmas of the late 20th Century. So much so, eyewitness accounts such as the famed Betty and Barney Hill abduction are now indelibly woven into the fabric of our contemporary culture. Their story is but a fragment of a vast accumulation of evidence, photographs, landing tracks, and reports told by people of all walks of life—credible individuals—police officers, airline pilots, military personnel and the like whose testimony would stand in a court of law, that suggests there are objects flying in our skies—flying machines of intelligent design that cannot be accounted for by comparison to contemporary terrestrial aircraft configurations: in other words, aircraft that do not fit into our ‘normal’ paradigm.


These Unidentified Flying Objects exhibit flight capabilities that defy the laws of aero-dynamics as they are commonly understood. Based on this: the widely accepted assumption has been that such craft, if indeed they are intelligently controlled vehicles, must come from somewhere beyond our world. The idea that any such flying machines could have been manufactured by German technicians under Hitler’s regime seems at first blush a preposterous notion, yet under closer examination it becomes a more haunting possibility.


We know as historical fact such technological wizardry as; television, jet aircraft and guided missiles were developed by German science at the time of the Second World War. And in the closing months of the war, as Allied armies moved relentlessly against the crumbling Reich, Hitler repeatedly boasted that an arsenal of super-weapons would be deployed to rescue the fading dream of Nazi conquest. Was Hitler’s boast a desperate propaganda ploy, or was a bizarre generation of super-technological weaponry actually under development? Is it possible that flying saucers were an integral part of this weaponry? The real truth is difficult to ascertain, yet there is a tantalizing trail of clues and conjecture into the myth of German saucers that causes us to reconsider UFOs…

In the post-war years UFOs –Unidentified Flying Objects—became one of the premier, unsolved, popular enigmas of the era. Machines of unknown origin or purpose were regularly reported buzzing through the skies over the United States and the rest of the world as well. People from all walks of life were describing the presence of unconventional aircraft that could not be accounted for flying in our skies. The popular conjecture was that these craft must be visitors from outer space. The tabloid media, the press and Hollywood all picked up this theme. Aliens from space, usually depicted as hostile, resolved the mystery. Official Government policy promoted a more benign, prosaic explanation, dismissing ‘Flying Saucers’ as misidentified ‘natural’ phenomena, such as ‘swamp gas’, meteors, the planet Venus, weather balloons or simply mass hallucinations. Also a mighty campaign of ‘official’ ridicule was mounted to dampen public interest in UFOs altogether. The intensity of this government ridicule policy suggested something behind the UFO issue that was politically ‘sensitive’, perhaps even threatening.

Western Civilization; for the latter half of the Twentieth Century, has been dominated by advances in science and technology. Most of these wonders of scientific ingenuity existed behind closed doors long before their common acceptance by the public at large. Advancement in electronics, communications, weapons and aerospace exhibited in the public domain are the mere tip of the iceberg. Antibiotics were discovered in 1910, but not applied until 1940. The physics for using the atom as a source of energy was understood as scientific fact as early as 1919. To the public, such technology was pure science fiction until August 6, 1945 when the first Atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan. Television guided ‘smart bombs’ used in the 1991 ‘Gulf War’ against Iraq were a technological advancement developed by Germany in World War II. In fact the first television transmission of the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin—showcased yet another marvel of German scientific genius.
And it is at this point—the link between fantastic German weapons design and UFOs–that our examination begins…

Conquerors have always rewritten history to cast themselves in the most favorable light.
WORLD WAR II…
By 1944, the German war machine, cities, factories, oil dumps, railways and shipyards were being pummeled mercilessly by allied bombers. In November of that year, debriefed allied bomber crews began reporting strange balls of glowing light that seemed to follow their planes. Somehow intelligently guided, these lights would ascend from the ground to meet the approaching bombers. Close proximity to these objects caused reported engine malfunction, and some bombers allegedly crashed as a result of this effect—though such was officially denied. When shot at, these objects would fly away at great speed.


The New York Herald Tribune stated, “The balls of fire appear suddenly and accompany the planes for miles. They seem to be radio controlled from the ground, so official intelligence reports reveal…” 8th Army Air Corps and the RAF concluded these ‘Foo’ fighters, as they were called, were simply ‘mass hallucinations’ on the part of jittery flight crews. Shortly before the German surrender, these ‘Foo’ fighters disappeared.


According to research by an Italian author, Renato Vesco, in his book Intercept UFO, reveals that British and American Intelligence data on ‘Foo’ fighters was far more substantial than we’ve been led to believe. They were more than mere ‘hallucinations’. Vesco states that a remote controlled device called the ‘Fuerball’ (Fire-Ball)–a turbojet powered, armored disc, built by the Weiner Neustadt Aircraft Manufacturing plant, was responsible for the “Foo-Fighter” reports . By day, the ‘Fuerball’ could be seen as a shiny metal disc spinning on its axis. By night, it looked like a glowing ball of fire. A rich fuel mixture over-ionized the air surrounding the disc creating a fiery halo. It was designed to home in on enemy aircraft engine exhaust and was capable of generating damaging electromagnetic impulses that interfered with the ignition systems of bomber engines. (A common effect reported with UFOs in close proximity to automobile engines as well.) In addition it was designed to accelerate at full speed, vertically, if struck by gunfire. The ‘Fuerball’ was intended for use as an anti-radar and psychological weapon. In addition this weaponwas reportedly supplied to the Japanese as well, for use in the Pacific war against the Allies.

The revelation of un-manned flying discs designed by Nazi engineers poses a staggering implication!
Not to be underestimated, Germany rose from crushing military defeat and utter economic chaos following World War I to become Europe’s dominant military-industrial power under Adolph Hitler’s ruthless leadership. He fashioned the brutal totalitarian Nazi regime capable of funneling virtually limitless manpower and resources into weapons research, with dramatic results.


During the War, London, England was pounded by V-1 and V-2 guided missile attacks. The advances of German weapons technology were devastatingly real! But what types of exotic weaponry were still being developed? According to W. A. Harbinson’s research in Genesis, a Luftwaffe Flugkapitan, named Rudolph Shriever—an aeronautical engineer—was credited for designing a craft called the ‘Kugelblitz’ , or ‘Ball Lightning’ fighter. This manned flying saucer was allegedly test flown in February of 1945 in the German province of Thuringia, from the Kahla underground complex. Recovered notes state the craft rose to 40,000 feet, reaching a velocity of 1250 mph. Shriever had been working on the design of a ‘flying-top’ as early as the spring of 1941. A prototype was test flown in June of 1942. By August 1943 he had constructed a ‘large specimen’ of his original disc.


By the summer of 1944, at the BMW plant in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Shriever was working on a radically re-designed engine for his craft. Collaborating with two other German engineers on this project, Drs. Habermohl and Miethe, as well as an Italian physicist Dr. Bellonzo.


According to the report, these men designed a flying disc 138 feet in diameter that could reach 40,000 feet in altitude and was capable of 1250 mph., horizontal flight speed. The configuration was a fixed cupola-cockpit in the center of a discus plate that rotated around it. After the war, Shriever admitted to constructing the disc, but claimed it was never flown. To keep it from the hands of the advancing Allies, it was destroyed along with all planning designs. However an alleged eyewitness, George Klein, claims this, or a similar disc was successfully test flown in February of 1945. Author Renato Vesco in Intercept UFO confirms this story. Right up to the time of his death in the late 1950’s, German engineer Shriever was convinced UFO sightings after the War were proof that someone had successfully advanced his original designs.
As the war drew to a close and the Reich collapsed, the race was on for American, British and Russian armies to capture the rocket facilities at Peenemunde and the flying disc designers as well. To the victors go the spoils.
The German ‘Projekt Saucer’ team was slit up, captured by competing Allied armies. Dr. Miethe to the American-British side. Dr. Habermohl to the Soviet. Much of the German saucer technology employed conventional turbojet propulsion systems. However, more radical ‘anti-gravity’ propulsion systems were explored as well.


According to additional research by Lt. Col. Wendelle Stevens and William Steinman in their book UFO Crash at Aztec, the Nazi’s had coerced an Austrian refugee, Viktor Schauberger to assist with saucer development projects. A ten foot model he built at a facility in Vienna, capable of ‘diamagnetic levitation’ allegedly took off vertically at such a surprising speed that it shot right through the 24 foot high hanger ceiling. Schauberger claimed an advanced version of his model was test flown in February of 1945 that climbed to 15,000 meters in just three minutes. Intensive development was hindered by the collapsing war effort. Eventually orders were dispatched to destroy these prototypes as well. After the war Schauberger, (who was also captured by the Americans) was coerced by the United States government to relinquish all of his technical secrets. Authorities claimed rights to all his ideas, thoughts and discoveries—past as well as future. His intellect, indeed, his whole being had become U.S. property. Dejected, he died on September 25, 1958 at the age of 74. “I don’t even own myself any longer.” He remarked.



How advanced were the German saucer designs–obviously not far enough to reach mass production for deployment against Allied air power, or to be used as successful tactical weapons such as the V-1 or V-2 rockets. However, another fascinating wartime account is revealed in Clear Intent, a book by Lawrence Fawcett and Barry Greenwood. On a labor detail at a camp some thirty miles from Berlin, a Polish POW was cutting hay when he recalled suddenly hearing a high pitched whine coming from behind a circular tarpaulin enclosure which measured roughly 150 yards in diameter and 50 feet tall. The noise was similar to that of a large electric generator. At this time the labor detail tractor stalled. The German driver made no effort to re-start it. Suddenly, a dark gray circular machine 75 to 100 yards in diameter slowly rose up from behind the enclosure. The POW described it as having a stationary top and bottom section with a rapidly spinning middle section. The craft rose high enough to clear the canvas wall and then move off horizontally a short distance out of his sight behind a stand of trees.


Hitler’s boast to unleash ‘miracle’ weapons that would save the crumbling Reich proved empty. Nazi resistance collapsed by the spring of 1945; Germany’s Reich fell to American, British and Russian armies. Researcher Rudolph Lusar, in his book German Secret Weapons of World War II states, “The (saucer) development, which has cost millions was almost complete at the end of the war. No doubt the existing models were destroyed, although the plant in Breslau, where Miethe worked, fell into the hands of the Russians, who removed all the technical materiel and personnel to Siberia, where further work on these ‘flying saucers’ has been carried on with success, Schriever just managed to get out of much Prague in time, Habermohl on the other hand must be in the Soviet Union. Miethe is in the USA and, as far as can be determined, is designing ‘flying saucers’ for the A.V. Roe & Co. (a Canadian aircraft manufacturer).”
Allied commanders were clearly shaken by the advances of captured Nazi weapons technology. Sir Roy Feddon, leader of a technical mission to Germany for the British Ministry of Aircraft Production stated, “I have seen enough of their designs and production plans to realize that if they had managed to prolong the war some months longer we would have been confronted with a set of entirely new and deadly developments in air warfare.” Later in 1956, U.S. Air Force Captain Edward J. Ruppelt, head of ‘Project Bluebook’ stated, “When World War II ended, the Germans had several radical types of aircraft and guided missiles under development. The majority of these were in the most preliminary stages, but they were the only known aircraft that could even approach the performances of the objects reported by UFO observers…”


American, British and Soviet technical intelligence experts picked the bones of the Nazi war machine. Personnel and materiel flowed back to each respective country. Nazi rocket designer, Wernher von Braun and three hundred railroad freight cars loaded with captured V-2 rocket components were shipped to White Sands, New Mexico, for him to reassemble as ‘America’s’ rocket program which, over the ensuing decades, would successfully launch men to the moon.
‘Projekt Saucer’ seemed to have been consigned to oblivion. Little more was revealed about the fate of engineers, plans or hardware. Had all of it been captured or accounted for? During World War II a sizable tract of land in the Antarctic was reclaimed from the Norwegians by Germany and called Neuschwabenland. According to W.A. Harbinson’s research for Genesis, just two months after the German surrender, two U-boats surfaced off the coast of Argentina. Their crews were returned to the United States for interrogation. Reportedly they had been delivering components, materiel, and members of the Projekt Saucer research team to underground facilities in the Antarctic.

In January of 1947 ‘Operation High-Jump’, a naval military task force complete with 4000 combat troops, thirteen ships, an aircraft carrier with seaplanes and helicopters was dispatched to the Antarctic for the alleged purpose of ‘mapping’ the Antarctic coastline’. Their destination was Neuschwabenland.
Under command of Admiral Richard E. Byrd, the task force was provisioned for an eight-month stay… however, they withdrew after only a few weeks. Rumor was the task force had encountered hostile action. Planes were lost, and Byrd is alleged to have stated cryptically, there was potential for attack “by fighters that are able to fly from one pole to the other with incredible speed.”


It is significant to note, the predominant observance and public awareness of UFOs in the last fifty years of the 20th Century began just two years after the collapse and surrender of Nazi Germany!

The popular, public UFO phenomenon of the post war years began with a press release in June of 1947… A private pilot named Kenneth Arnold, flying near Mt. Rainier, Washington, reported a formation of nine shiny objects flying at a velocity he calculated to be near 1600 mph.—three time faster than conventional aircraft of that day could manage. In Arnold’s words, these craft flew “like a saucer would if you skipped it across the water.” The press seized upon the word ‘saucer’ and sensationalized the story across the country. The “Flying Saucer” craze was publicly launched! However, it is significant to note, that Arnold did not say he saw ‘saucers’. He was only referring to the manner in which they flew. The ‘objects’ themselves were more crescent shaped—like flying ‘wings’–coincidentally another radical air form design perfected by the Germans during World War II… In addition, these craft were on a heading for the Canadian border, about 140 miles from Mt. Rainier. According to author W.A. Harbinson, as early as 1946, joint American-Canadian-British saucer research was underway in the wilds of western Canada.


Just four months after the Mt. Rainier sightings, in September of 1947, the Strategic Air Command undertook a curious project in Alaska. In UFO Crash at Aztec, authors William Steinman and Lt. Col. Wendelle Stevens tell the account of ‘Project Ptarmigan’. Named after an Arctic snowbird, this mission called for a detailed mapping and reconnaissance surveying of the North Pole. This came just seven months after the ill-fated Byrd expedition to the South Pole. An extensive B-29 support base was established at Ft. Richardson, Alaska. Planes were winterized and combat aircrews were trained for Arctic survival. The project was funded as a training/research mission. Oddly though, prior to each flight, a team of scientists installed classified electromagnetic scanners aboard the bombers. Also special electrical sensors were installed to detect unusual power surges in the plane’s own electrical systems. In addition, 16 mm, 35 mm, and 70 mm movie cameras were installed along with 35 mm, 4×5” and 8×10” still cameras—all these in addition to the regular gun-mount cameras which were standard on B-29s. Perhaps the most important instrument aboard the planes was a ‘magnetic anomaly detector’ that could lock-on and record any unusual electromagnetic emission within a specified range of the aircraft. Protocol upon return of each flight was immediate de-briefing of flight crews on what they saw and recorded. All film rolls, canisters and recording tapes were immediately packed in secured containers and flown back to Washington D.C.


Crew reports were astonishing! Aside from endless expanse of ice and snow, they described encounters with metallic, disc-shaped craft capable of maneuvers impossible to any conventional aircraft of that day. These craft were seen lifting vertically from the ice pack, making instant mid-air stops, right angle turns and actually flying into and out of the water! Just what did the military make of all this? “Ptarmigan” commander Major Charles Moss concluded the craft to be a ‘secret’ Russian development possibly advanced from captured German designs. The Pentagon was clearly aware of these craft and was mobilizing a serious effort to gain more intelligence about them. How could such machines fly unaffected by the bounds of gravity?
The Anti-Gravity connection…

The late Forties and early Fifties saw continued expansion in conventional weapons technology. The Hydrogen bomb was under development. Jet aircraft were replacing piston engine, propeller driven fighters. Northrup Aviation in California was testing an American version of the flying-wing. In New Mexico, Werhner von Braun was testing improved rockets and in the press, as well as the movies, ‘Flying Saucers’ invading from space were finding increased popularity. Concurrent with the tabloid and Hollywood exploitation of UFOs was the theme that no agency of this earth could possibly produce such exotic technology—it could only come from aliens in outer space! This assumption has echoed like a litany in our popular culture for fifty years, however, this is not altogether consistent with the facts…


Futuristic weaponry was, of course, not the exclusive province of German engineers and physicists. Until August 6, 1945, the notion of splitting the atom to create an explosion was strictly out of ‘Buck Rogers’. But when the nightmare glare of nuclear fission blossomed over Hiroshima, Japan, fiction became horrendous fact! Charged by the fear that Germany was intending just such a fate for New York, Boston or Washington, our own ‘A-bomb’ project was rushed to completion, cloistered in strictest secrecy. Indeed, the huge Oak Ridge, Tennessee facility where much of the A-bomb development took place was commonly thought to be simply a military depot for materiel waiting to be shipped overseas.


Albert Einstein, who’s research contributed significantly to the creation of the atomic bomb, was employed by the U.S. Navy in 1943 and assigned to the Office of Scientific Research, “where his particular skills would be most likely to be of service.” Einstein’s specific contribution, and the nature of the committee to which he was assigned, was never disclosed. His employment with the Navy Department terminated in June of 1944. According to the research of William Moore and Charles Berlitz in their book The Philadelphia Experiment, it was during this same time period that the Navy was toying with electro-magnetics and the notion of making ships invisible to radar. It was then theorized powerful generators could produce an energy field around a vessel that would make it undetectable to enemy radar. Physicists advanced this idea to a more daring degree suggesting an even more powerful energy field could make a ship visually invisible as well! Although the Navy and Defense Departments deny the existence of such research, rumors and myths have stubbornly persisted since the War, of projects to make ships invisible. Most notorious of these tales has come to be known as the “Philadelphia Experiment”. This invisibility project stemmed from Einstein’s ‘Unified Field Theory’ research which postulates, time, space and gravity can be manipulated by a sufficiently powerful electromagnetic field. In 1943 the destroyer ‘Eldridge’ and a volunteer crew were allegedly involved in a practical application of this theory. Rumors claimed the ship was actually rendered ‘invisible’ but the effects on the crew were disastrous. Apparently some of the sailors had momentarily ‘de-materialized’ under the effect of the intense magnetic field then ‘re-materialized’, with their bodies’ grotesquely fused into the steel bulkheads of the ship itself. Obviously the Navy swiftly denied any such test took place, however proponents of this story point out that through this research, the Navy inadvertently stumbled onto the fundamentals of anti-gravity propulsion!
It was determined the ideal air-form for the application of ‘electromagnetic resonance propulsion’ would be an “oblate-spheroid”—flying saucer!
By the early Fifties, some very serious anti-gravity research was under way.


Another physicist allegedly involved in The Philadelphia Experiment was T. Townsend Brown, who in 1953 demonstrated “in a laboratory setting the flight of disc-shaped airfoils two feet in diameter around a twenty foot diameter course. The process involved tethering these saucer shaped craft to a central pole by means of a wire through which the necessary direct-current potential was supplied… The test produced an observable speed of an amazing seventeen feet per second (about twelve miles an hour)… The disc-shaped air foils emitted a slight hum and a bluish electrical glow.” At a later demonstration, Brown “exhibited a set of discs three feet across, flying a fifty-foot diameter course with results so spectacular that they were immediately classified.”
In November of 1955 the New York Herald Tribune published a series of articles by military aviation editor Ansel E. Talbert outlining a government project to harness gravitation as a means of aircraft and spacecraft propulsion. Some of America’s top scientific minds such as Edward Teller and Robert Oppenheimer, both pioneers in atomic bomb development, were named as proponents of this project. Talbert went on to describe these amazing anti-gravity ships as “capable of acceleration in a few seconds to speeds of many thousands of miles an hour and making sudden changes of course at these speeds without subjecting the passengers to the so-called ‘G-forces’ caused by gravity’s pull, are also envisioned.” These flight characteristics Talbert described for such futuristic aircraft were already being observed in reported UFO flight behavior! Reading between the lines–was Talbert really telling the public that UFO technology had already been accomplished by government scientists—perhaps spawned from captured German technology like our rocket program? Some of the companies allegedly involved in anti-gravity propulsion research were such notables as Lear Inc., Bell Aircraft, Sperry-Rand Corp., Glen H. Martin Corp. and General Electric.
According to researcher Stan Deyo, a technical paper published in December of 1956 by Gravity Rand Ltd. Of London, entitled The Gravitics Situation bluntly implied mankind had already developed anti-gravity propulsion based on the research of T. Townsend Brown. “A program in hand may now ensure that development of large sized discs will be continued. This is backed by the U.S. Government… already companies are specializing in evolution of particular components of an electrogravitics disc. This implies that the science is in the same state as the ICBM—namely that no new breakthroughs are needed, only intensive development engineering.” The full text of this document can be found in Deyo’s book The Cosmic Conspiracy.
For UFO buffs, the Fifties seemed full of promise. Disclosure of government disc projects seemed imminent. The question was whose flying saucers would land on the White House lawn first, the ‘little men from Venus’ or the ‘big men from the U.S. Air Force?
The Canadian Connection…
Author W.A. Harbinson, continues his investigation of terrestrial UFO technology in a multi-volume reference collection, The Unexplained, Mysteries of Mind, Space and Time. In this work he tells the account of the ‘AVRO-Car’.


Promising news was coming from Canada at this time as well. In 1953 Canadian Defense Minister C.D. Howe announced to the House of Commons, Avro-Canadian Air Craft
Manufacturing was in-fact, working on a flying saucer capable of 1500 mph, as well as vertical take-off. Also, Crawford Gordon, President of AVRO Canada, announced in the AVRO News that his prototype was so revolutionary as to make all other forms of supersonic aircraft obsolete! Then, in December of 1954, in the face of world anticipation AVRO abruptly announced it had abandoned the saucer project despite all the sensational buildup.
By the late Fifties, the AVRO saucer project shifted back to the U.S. Air Force. On April 14, 1959 at a Washington press conference, General Frank Britten announced the imminent test flight of a craft destined to revolutionize traditional aeronautical concepts.
Little ‘revolutionizing’ was apparent, however, when in August of 1960 the Air Force finally presented a demonstration of the AVRO-car to the press. The clumsy, circular, jet-powered, air cushion contraption could barely lift off the runway. This was the craft to make “all other forms of supersonic aircraft obsolete”? Were government saucer projects just a ‘pipe-dream’–or a ‘smokescreen’?
The message seemed clear, regardless—saucer projects were publicly displayed as an unfeasible and unwarranted waste of taxpayer’s money! Flying saucers and anti-gravity propulsion were fantasy nonsense! By December of 1961 the Defense Department officially withdrew all participation in the AVRO-car project. After it’s single sorry performance, the poor machine was relegated to the Air Force Museum at Ft. Eustis, Virginia, worthy of only collecting dust—certainly no match for the awesome spectacle of rocketry the world would experience for the next three decades!
Into the ‘Black World’…


The Sixties found the United States and the Soviet Union locked in a ‘Cold War’ race to build superior missile arsenals. Through the media we were overwhelmed with images of thundering rocket technology–Mercury, Titan, Atlas, and Saturn boosters—the power to challenge the ‘gods’—blasted America into the ‘space-age’. All of it the spawn of technology which was the stepchild of German World War II rockets. We witnessed Sputnik, Earth-orbiters, space-walks, lunar-landers and the space shuttle. The hard reality of NASA engineering eclipsed the ‘nonsense’ of UFOs. Across America racial tensions, urban unrest, and the Vietnam War came to preoccupy our national consciousness. Though UFO reports stubbornly persisted, the government maintained a consistent, hard-line policy of denial, hostile to the subject.
Project ‘Sign’, Project ‘Grudge’, Project ‘Bluebook’, the Robertson Panel and the Condon Report—all official Military and Government programs to investigate UFOs, uniformly maintained the whole mystery to be largely misinterpreted natural phenomena by uninformed or unbalanced observers.
UFOs were a fantasy and the people who reported them were ‘crack-pots’! The whole subject was just so much frenzied silliness worthy only of ridicule. The government debunking campaign was relentless and effective.
Behind closed doors, surely this subject was taken as anything but silly! Clearly air weaponry with the flight capability exhibited by UFOs would provide the ultimate tactical advantage to the first nation to possess it! Mastery of flying saucer technology, as with atomic weapons, would ensure dominion over the planet! Hence, ‘official’ interest in UFOs was classified ‘Above Top-Secret’.
The possibility remains that the American, British and Soviet military continued to advance secret ‘saucer’ projects combining German designs from the war with anti-gravity research of the Fifties. Test flights of these craft would, at some point, be unavoidably witnessed by civilians, however by this time the public was thoroughly conditioned assume these objects were ‘alien’ spacecraft or ‘swamp gas’. To avoid undue embarrassment or ridicule it was best to simply ignore them. Government projects, conveniently hiding the truth behind a smokescreen of confusion, speculation and systematic humiliation, were free to fly their exotic machines with total impunity. Throughout the Eighties and the Nineties more evidence of Government-Saucer involvement surfaced.

‘Black-Projects’ for advanced weapons design funded by ‘black budgets’, monies and financial resources all protected from public scrutiny, flourished under the administration of President Ronald Reagan. Practical examples of ‘black’ research and development available for public show have been the U-2 and SR-71 ‘Blackbird’ high altitude spy planes, as well as the F-117 ‘Stealth’ fighter and B-2 ‘Stealth’ bomber. We can only speculate at what other ‘Black-World’ projects may exist beyond the public’s grasp.
Recent years have seen numerous eyewitness accounts strongly suggesting a link between UFOs and U.S. military interests. During the Sixties and Seventies came numerous reports of sightings over sensitive military installations, such as missile silos and nuclear power plants. In more recent years accounts of more explicit UFO, military-government involvement have surfaced. The desolate stretches of Nevada desert north of Las Vegas have been prime weapons testing areas since the early days of the atomic bomb.
On the Nellis Air Force Base test range in the Groom Mountains is the location of the famed ‘Area 51’ where preliminary test flights of the ‘Stealth’ aircraft have been performed. Otherwise known as ‘Dreamland’, this area is notorious as well for more radical aircraft designs including—‘flying saucers’!

Tantalizing eyewitness accounts are recounted in the book UFO Crash at Aztec, by William Steinman and Lt. Col. Wendelle Stevens. One tale is that of a base security guard who, while on duty, claimed he saw a hanger door “open during the night and saw an unusual object come out an take off straight up.” The craft was described as “disc-shaped with dull tone lights.” Another report in 1974 from ‘Dreamland’ tells of an aviation photographer on assignment who inadvertently found himself in a restricted flight area where he witnessed “a saucer-shaped craft rising and approaching at a low altitude over the desert. It was the size of a small fighter jet, saucer-shaped except for a plexiglass canopy. It was natural aluminum color except for a number in black paint on its upper surface.” Inside the cockpit he reported seeing a “pilot wearing the usual Air Force helmet and faceplate.” Then he saw a “tripod-like landing gear sucked up into the bottom of the craft. It was obviously taking off in an area where no civilian observer would see it.” This errant photographer was shortly corralled by security police and removed from the area.

Pilots engaged in simulated combat exercises at Nellis Air Force Base who have strayed into restricted airspace over ‘Dreamland’ have reported being chased by UFOs. Afterwards subjected to detention and rigorous de-briefing, these pilots have been ‘persuaded’ they saw nothing out of the ordinary and sternly warned not to discuss their experiences.

In 1978 a Navajo Indian witnessed two military helicopters escorting a dark disc-shaped object near the AEC facility in Nevada. He described the craft as “smooth skinned, metallic and circular in form, with a raised dome on top and flew steadily in formation…” Tribal elders, apparently aware of such ships warned the witness not to disclose his experience.
Another dramatic case was documented near Lake Houston, Texas, when two women and a seven year-old boy witnessed a large diamond shaped craft hovering over the road they were traveling. A detailed account of this case can be found in the Time-Life series, Mysteries of the Unknown: The UFO Phenomenon. This trio later reported suffering radiation sickness from exposure to this strange craft. In addition to the UFO, however, these witnesses reported as many as twenty-five large, double rotor, CH-47 military helicopters accompanying this object. Were these choppers trying to corral a space invader or flying support for a nuclear-powered test vehicle? The Government predictably denied any military activities around the area in question at the time of this alleged encounter.


The Australian outback is home to another ‘Joint Defense Space Research Facility’ not unlike Nevada’s ‘Area 51’. Located twelve miles from Alice Springs is a test range simply referred to as ‘Pine Gap’. This is a combined British/American Government enterprise. “According to several eye-witnesses, white discs about thirty feet in diameter with U.S. Air Force markings have been ferried into Australia inside large military air transports which have landed at one or the other of the two airports servicing Pine Gap.” This comes from the book Cosmic Conspiracy by Stan Deyo, which also tells the report by three hunters who in December 1989 saw “a camouflaged door open up in the grounds of the base (Pine Gap), and a metallic, circular disc ascend vertically and soundlessly into the air before disappearing at great speed.”


From Puerto Rico comes an astounding account of two Navy F-14 ‘Tomcat’ fighters that engaged a gigantic triangular shaped UFO in the Cabo Rojo area. This encounter took place December 28, 1988. Eyewitnesses alleged the ‘Tomcats’ intercepted the object and then were somehow ‘trapped’ or taken aboard this huge craft. Some researchers are so audacious as to suggest the fighters were simply ‘landing’ aboard this flying ‘aircraft carrier’ as part of a ‘routine’ exercise. Quoting Timothy Good from his book Alien Liaison, “Although the FAA denied this incident had occurred, investigator Jorge Martin subsequently obtained confirmation from a U.S. Navy source who said there were radar-tapes showing what had happened which were immediately classified and sent to Washington D. C.” The question remains, are we being accosted by denizens from deep space or do witnesses simply stumble upon glimpses of exotic technologies being developed by ‘black project’ wizardry of our own government?

Late in 1990 startling technical advances were revealed—not in the National Enquirer—but the respected Aviation Week and Space Technology Magazine, which showcases the latest advances in military and commercial avionics. In two feature articles, October 1, 1990 and December 24.1990 issues the lid was ever so slightly lifted on super-classified development programs that could conceivably include anti-gravity propulsion systems. These articles focused on advanced ‘aircraft’ testing at Nellis AFB in Nevada and Edwards AFB in California. They state these bases “have been home to ‘classified’ vehicles for decades. The number and sophistication of new aircraft appear to have increased sharply over the last ten years, when substantial funding was made available for ‘Deep Black’ projects…Vehicles now flying from these well guarded sites include both manned and unmanned hyper-sonic capable aircraft designed to perform strategic reconnaissance and other less conventionally defined missions.”

Aviation Week goes on to say “these primary types of ‘Black’ aircraft appear to employ relatively conventional propulsion systems although more advanced than those available to the ‘White’ world. In addition there is substantial evidence that another family of craft exists that relies on exotic propulsion and aerodynamic schemes not fully understood at this time…” “There are bigger and better things out there.”
This seems to imply advances on the ‘Stealth’ fighter and bomber technology, but the vague implications combined with eyewitness accounts of fantastic machines harbored at these facilities makes one pause. There are more comments from Nevada test-site personnel to fuel the intrigue… “There are things being flown over the Nevada desert that would make George Lucas drool!” states one pilot. Another Air Force officer claims, “We are testing vehicles that defy description. To compare them to the SR-71 (Blackbird spy plane) would be like comparing Leonardo da Vinci’s parachute design to the space shuttle.” Despite oppressive security, stories of exotic vehicles persist.


Most notorious of these accounts comes from a physicist, Robert Lazar, a former employee from Site-51—‘Dreamland’, who makes the sensational claim of seeing as many as nine variations of flying discs housed at the ‘Groom Lake’ facility. At least one of which was fully operational. During his employment he claims to have witnessed a flight demonstration of one of these craft inside the secret hangar complex. The craft emitted a static hiss, a bluish corona appeared around the ship: then it slowly lifted into the air where it remained hovering silently. Such performance marks a striking parallel to the performance of the craft seen by Lazar and the laboratory model experiment reported by T. Townsend Brown way back in 1953!


Lastly, researcher William Hamilton tells a curious account which took place during the 1991 ‘Gulf War’. Security at all national military defense installations was at fever pitch against a possible terrorist reprisal threat from Iraq’s, Sadam Hussein, yet a gigantic UFO was reported flying unchallenged in highly restricted airspace over Edwards AFB in California.
Bizarre reports such as these certainly suggest that a formidable array of fantastic aircraft technology does exist. Congressional briefings aimed at securing continued funding for these exotic vehicles proudly boast “the reason the Iron Curtain fell,” is thanks to our ‘Black Projects’ weaponry.

Another curious side note to the Persian Gulf conflict was a new array of spy drones keeping watch on Iraq’s military activities at the time. One vehicle called ‘Shadow’ is of particular interest to our discussion here. The August 1991 issue of Popular Mechanics Magazine shows the photograph of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) used for reconnaissance surveillance. ‘Shadow’ is a shameless six-foot diameter ‘flying saucer’ built by none other than the United States Air force!
And if that were not enough, the military sees advancing such drone aircraft as tactical weapons. UCAVs—uninhabited combat air vehicles. The June 2, 1997 issue of Aviation Week and Space Technology Magazine shows the advantages of ‘saucer’ weaponry. “Potentially, a saucer shape could produce the most maneuverable UCAV if combined with vectored thrust for maximum lateral agility. Moreover, a weapon could be pointed by simply rotating the aircraft without altering the course.” By 1997, fifty-two years after the surrender of Nazi Germany, was the U.S. Air Force just beginning to discover what aircraft engineers of the Third Reich had already conceived?
All this evidence certainly suggests that terrestrial science has, in fact, achieved ‘flying saucer’ technology. It remains totally plausible that covert government military projects working with captured German saucer designs, advanced by subsequent anti-gravity research have provided mastery of flying discs. However, this does not dismiss the UFO phenomenon as being the exclusive product of Earth technology. The ‘unknowns’ reported flying in our skies could be both terrestrial and extra-terrestrial—how would the average layman in the street know the difference?
Assuming the physics involved with saucer propulsion are based on universal principles—technologies we are just now mastering could have been discovered and harnessed by any number of alien races eons ago.
Accounts of UFOs date back to antiquity, a phenomenon as old as mankind itself. Mastery of anti-gravity technology could, as Albert Einstein suggested, accommodate interstellar travel by generating electromagnetic fields that are freed from the bounds of time and space as well as gravity—thus rendering travel of fantastic distances between inhabited star systems no more extraordinary than a jaunt to the corner grocery. Also there are those who suggest that terrestrial UFO projects are ‘alien’ sponsored–that extra-terrestrials, for whatever reasons, have made covert treaties with Earth governments offering technical assistance to competing world powers. Some argue the German ‘Projekt Saucer’ came from just such a pact.


Discourse from an alleged ‘Alien’ contact case confirms the existence of covert government UFO projects. In 1975 a Swiss farmer living near Zurich claims to have had ongoing visits with extra-terrestrial beings, said to come from the Pleiades star system. A collection of discourses between Eduard ‘Billy’ Meier and these cosmonauts titled Messages from the Pleiades, Vol.1, reveals,
“Such flight instruments (UFOs) have been built on Earth. They are not beam ships (advanced Pleiadian design) but devices similar to our ships which are equipped with explosion motors, and recently by repulse drives having a thrust effect. The building of such ships is not new, because the first of this sort had been designed and were under construction in your year 1941. The order for this was given by a leader of your Second World War–Adolf Hitler. At the end of that war everything of the project was destroyed to keep it from falling into the hands of the enemy… different plans, equipment and apparatus overlooked in that destruction were discovered. From this, different groups developed the today existing ships in disc form of Earth origin… These flying discs, as they were called by their builders, have been test flown. The largest of these Earth flight machines of this kind reached nearly one hundred meters (300 feet) in diameter and a number have been constructed. This of course is contested by the governments of the possessing nations and very urgently so. Some of these machines have crashed because they are still in development. Uninformed humans of Earth who have seen these machines flying believe them to be of the same sort as our beamships and that they come from extraterrestrial worlds.”
The ‘Pleiadians’ had even more pointed comment concerning UFO deceptions…
“They (Earth built UFOs) have even had emergency landings because their construction, equipment and apparatus are still lacking. By their explosive and repulse drives, and lately also atomic they have problems. Humans who come near such locations have been menaced by such radiations. When emergency landed ships of this sort are (approached) by observers, they may be frightened by the pilots or even kidnapped and deported to insure absolute silence. Such events are unfortunately not rare on Earth…”
“…Many observations of flying discs and kidnappings are of Earth origin. Of that Earthmen should be conscious, as their pilots are well aware that they will be assumed to be of extra-terrestrial origin. This knowledge is used by them when they announce to any credulous witness that they are extra-terrestrials. Conscious also of the power of religion, they do not shrink from calling themselves angels or God-sent ones to ‘rescue’ Earth men while they appoint the deceived credulous as their contacts and give them instructions pretending for the welfare of mankind, which in truth serves only as espionage in their own country.”
Impressive comments. Perhaps revelations such as these answer why there’s been such a concerted effort to de-bunk Meier and his story as a hoax. However, for the die-hard skeptics it is important to note, the primary Pleiadian cosmonaut in this notorious case was described as a ‘Nordic’ looking, fair skinned, blue-eyed, blonde girl who spoke fluent Austrian-German!




The Meier case bears a haunting resemblance to an equally controversial contact case from the early Fifties that involved a California man named George Adamski: he too was visited by a blonde, ‘Nordic’ cosmonaut man claiming to be from Venus. However, this chap allegedly left a footprint bearing a Swastika, and photographs of his ‘bell-shaped’ “Venusian scout ship” matched flying-disc designs from German ‘Projekt Saucer’ archives! Did both the ‘Venusians’ and the ‘Pleiadians’, in fact, come from Neuschwabenland in the Antarctic?
Are we lost in a hall of mirrors? Confusion is a key component to deception.
Is UFO propulsion really as far beyond human reach as we’ve been led to believe? A chain of circumstantial evidence certainly points to the possibility that such technology has been secretly advanced on Earth since, at least, World War II. Evidence further suggests that even now this technology continues to be developed behind closed doors. “Black World” projects protected from public scrutiny behind the cloak of ‘National Security’, financed by “Black Budgets”, money also protected from accountability to the taxpayers likely provide necessary support for these activities. Secrecy and a careful program of disinformation keeps the population at large ignorant of the true nature of these projects.
To quote author Michael Baigent from his book The Messianic Legacy, “…the best lies are always embellishments or variations on the truth, not total fabrications. The most effective dis-information is always structured around a core of validity. It is from this core that the labyrinth of cul-de-sacs and blind alleys invariably radiates.”
With this in mind, combined with the evidence examined herein, it is not inconceivable that saucer craft built by the U. S. Government have deliberately posed as ‘alien’ ships to mislead the public. It seems to appear that W.A. Harbinson’s basic assertion in his book Genesis, that flying saucers are products of terrestrial technology is serious enough to warrant deeper investigation.

In 1990 at a symposium at Tucson’s University of Arizona, spacecraft design specialist David Froning, from McDonald Douglas Corporation, who has also worked on contract to NASA as well, addressed an audience of astrophysicists, astronomers and engineers where he candidly admitted Earth science has developed “Modified Field” propulsion (anti-gravity), “Matter/Anti-matter conversion”, “Exotic Field Tension” (time-travel) and “Trans-luminal” flight (faster than light travel)! Froning has also asserted that we have taken conventional rocketry to the limits of its development potential and are now poised for a ‘quantum’ leap in spacecraft technology.

If such aircraft technology seems too far-fetched, one might consider this statement from former director of Lockheed’s notorious “Skunk-Works” at Area-51, Ben Rich… “We already have the means to travel among the stars, but these technologies are locked up in ‘black-projects’ and it would take an act of God to ever get them out to benefit humanity.” Having served as director from 1975 to 1991, Rich is also quoted as saying, “Anything you can imagine we already know how to do.”
It would appear that a covert world of ‘science fiction’ technology presently exists in this country—carefully concealed—yet real and tangible. The evidence is compelling enough for researcher William Hamilton to state, “Guess what, that’s the REAL reality! What you’ve been living in your everyday life—worried about gas prices or the ball game or your next vacation to Disneyland, is a fantasy that’s been created to keep you entertained! There are two worlds of science. There are two nations here in the United States!”
What other technologies lie concealed in this secret ‘nation’ and what is their ultimate purpose?
